SHOOTOUT: December 2018 - EXPERIMENTATION

Welcome to the fourth YOUR EXHIBITION SHOOTOUT. This is a monthly series in which we encourage you to produce new images around a set theme, and you have the chance of receiving a zine from our collection.

Before we commence with this SHOOTOUT, we’d like to thank you for taking part in the previous SHOOTOUTs. We’ve really enjoyed seeing the great work that you’ve all been producing, and it means a lot to know that you’re being encouraged to try new things.

You know the format by now: every month we have a collaborator that sets the theme, donates a zine as a prize, and then judge their winner. This month, we have an active member of the community in Charlie Thom being the judge, and he’s donated his debut zine: latent image. This zine is no longer on sale, so this is an extra bit special!

The theme? Experimentation. Did you expect anything less from Charlie? Let’s hear it from himself:

“My theme is going to be Experimentation. I want people to go out of their comfort zone and equipment. Have fun. Do something you wouldn’t normally do. Do a crazy technical experiment that you’re not even sure works. Take risks and be unpredictable. I’ll be judging it off what you normally do versus what you’ve entered, as well as how interesting your experiment is, along with your composition/subject matter.

Examples could be; use a really old, unreliable or homemade camera, play around in developing (ie cross processing), intentional light leaks, overexposure, long shutter speeds handheld - you get the point.”

As usual, this one will run for a whole month. This means you have from December 1st until December 31st to get your entries in. As for how to enter, simply upload your image(s) to Instagram, tag us (@YOUR_EXHIBITION) in the image, and use the #YEShootout hashtag. Charlie will then judge the winner, and it’ll be announced on January 1st 2019.

Until then, best of luck, and we look forward to seeing your images!
