I’m Benjamin Thwaite, I’m 22 and I’m UK born, New Jersey inhabiting.
I spent a lot of time working in various artistic mediums. One day, I picked up a camera, started taking photos, and something inside me clicked and said “This is what you’re supposed to do.” And shortly after, I became enthralled in the manual world of film.
My queerness is an important focal point of my identity, and I wish to create work that explores the stories of queer individuals and couples who come from all worlds.
I was born in the UK and moved to the States at a very young age. Growing up as a queer person brought difficulties, but it helped to shape my artistic direction and passion. I shoot film because nothing can really replicate the effect that physical negatives make visually, and the manual aspect to working on every step of the photo creation process is very important to me. My main body of work focuses on queer themes around sexuality, gender and expression, and identity. I want my work to tell the stories of people and couples through a visual medium, raw and real.
